The 2008 BAFTA Awards were announced last night at a ceremony in London. Atonement, although nominated for 14 awards, only won two of the coveted masks - one for Best Film and the other for Production Design.
The Best British Film Award went to director Shane Meadows' This is England, a gritty coming of age drama set Thatcher's Britain of the early eighties.
Matt Greenhalgh won a special award for special achievement in their first feature film for his writing of Control, the Ian Curtis biopic.
London born actor Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best actor award for his portrayal of an oil tycoon in There Will Be Blood.
