Oscar award winning film-maker Anthony Minghella has died aged 54. His adaptation of the Michael Ondaatje novel, The English Patient, won 9 Oscars in total including the best director award for Minghella. He followed this up with The Talented Mr Ripley in 1999, Cold Mountain in 2003 and Breaking and Entering in 2006.
He has recently been in Botswana filming the TV adaptation of The Number One Ladies Detective Agency. The 90-minute pilot is due to be screened on BBC One on Easter Sunday.
He has also been the chairman of the British Film Institute and was awarded a CBE in 2001. Published on www.britfilms.com March 19, 2008
