British war drama Atonement has won best British film at the Empire film awards in London. The acting talent in Atonement was also awarded with both James McAvoy and Keira Knightly winning best actor and best actress awards respectively.
The best director award went to David Yates for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The Best Newcomer award was won by Sam Riley for is impressive feature film debut in the Ian Curtis biopic Control.
