ANIMATE!

The animate! project challenges the boundaries of animation through production funding, discussion and screening; commissioning risk-taking work for television. Its website carries features and news stories from the world of experimental animation, and has an online database of the films commissioned so far.

The animate! scheme is produced by Finetake on behalf of the Arts Council of England and Channel 4 Television.

ANIMATED ENCOUNTERS FESTIVAL
Bristol, UK

Building on huge successes of previous festivals, which attracted over 5000 people in 2002, the festival combines its highly successful trademark mix of international and UK premieres, masterclasses and industry seminars and events. The festival is taking a year off in 2004, but will return in April 2005.

Highlights of 2003 included:

  • an evening of Animated Anecdotes
  • over 50 films showcasing the best in new British and international animation
  • the chance to see all five of that year's BAFTA nominees in the 'Short Animation' category
  • an Industry Day packed with seminars and masterclasses from leading figures in animation. Demos included the latest digital technologies
  • a retrospective of the pioneering work that has been coming out of Manchester, in the north west of England, in recent years
