IN THE DOCHOUSE

Around the world, the UK is seen as the home of documentary and as the production base for consistently innovative and excellent work. Yet, unlike most other European and American countries, we do not have a permanent centre dedicated to the exhibition, promotion and study of documentary. DocHouse aims to fill this gap and become the definitive heart of documentary activity in the UK, promoting the form for public access, encouraging its use at all levels of education and meeting the needs of documentary makers and audiences. It is a destination for the public, documentary makers, media professionals, students and teachers. It is a place that treasures and tracks the state of the art of this important medium and motivates its future. It brings people together and encourages them to examine the world around them in new ways.

DocHouse organises weekly screenings at The Other Cinema in London's West End and runs training courses in documentary filmmaking. It is also in the process of a major fundraising effort and has begun forming an extensive film and video reference collection for the future. It is looking for volunteers with a keen interest in documentary and good administrative, writing or marketing skills to help with organising screenings, training and the video library.
