UK FILM COUNCIL The UK Film Council was set up to work with the public and private sector to make film an essential part of the UK's creative economy and to create the environment for a sustainable and vibrant film culture. It aims to nurture excellence and innovation in the UK industry, and to promote innovation, diversity and social inclusion.

Equalities Charter: the UKFC was behind this pledge, backed by leading film companies, to iderntify and tackle the barriers that lead to eclusion and under-representation in the industry of women and ethnic minorities.
National Schools Films Week: backed by the UKFC, this is the biggest event of its kind in Europe. The aim is to show a wide range of films for teachers to use as a teaching tool.
Regional Investment Fund for England: The UKFC invests £7.5m a year in regional film activities via the nine regional screen agencies
Low Budget Film Scheme: managed for the UKFC by Qwerty Films and Warp X Films, the aim is to create two mini-studios for low-budget filmmaking in the UK
A Bigger Future: UKFC and Skillset are investing £50m into a five-year plan (2004-2009) to boost training. Initiatives include a national network of Screen Academies, a film business academy, mentoring programmes and a new industry approvals scheme for film courses.
First Light: a scheme aimed at enabling people between the ages of 5 and 18 to make short films. Annual budget £1m.
Inside Pictures: an annual business training programme for 14 participants, principally producers, is run for the UKFC by Qwerty Pictures.

UK MEDIA Desk An initiative of MEDIA, the European Union programme, which aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the European film, TV and new media industries and to increase international circulation of European audiovisual product. The UK MEDIA desk has three main aims:
- to provide information, advice and services about the MEDIA Plus programme to individuals, companies and industry bodies in the UK
- to promote the MEDIA Plus programme to the industry by organising and participating in various events, as well as through publications, advertising and the website
- to develop a coherent UK MEDIA strategy in collaboration with the MEDIA Antennae in Scotland and Wales and the MEDIA office in Northern Ireland.

FILM LONDON On 1 April 2003 the London Film Commisison and the London Film & Video Development Agency (LFVDA) were brought together to form Film London.
Film London exists to promote and support film and moving image in the capital. It invests in film production, exhibition and education and in economic and industry development initiatives across the capital. The agency leads the drive to enhance London’s status as a world class film location. It also works to develop London's film and media culture so that it reflects the diversity of the city and creates opportunities for people from all communities to use moving image technologies profitably and creatively.
Film London is funded by the UK Film Council and the London Development Agency, and works in partnership with Arts Council England, the Mayor of London, Skillset, London boroughs, broadcasters and the film industry. In May 2004, the Filming London Partnership was announced under the leadership of Film London, bringing together many organisations with the aim of making filmmaking easier in the capital.

The DPRS is the collecting society which represents British film and television directors. It collects and distributes money due to directors for the exploitation of their work. The Independent Cinema Office (ICO) is a national organisation that aims to develop and support independent film exhibition throughout Britain. The ICO works in association with independent cinemas, film festivals, film societies and the regional and national screen agencies. The ICO’s objectives are:
- to encourage excellence in film exhibition
- to promote innovation, education, diversity and social inclusion
- to support initiatives that develop audiences
- to develop the sector through training
- to increase awareness of the UK’s flourishing independent cinema scene

PACT Producers Alliance for Film and Television The UK film industry's main trade association and employers' body representing the commercial interests of three key groups within the production sector: feature film, television and animation production companies. PACT provides a range of business services to production companies, the most important of which is industrial relations. This latter function is now carried out by the Producers Industrial Relations Service (PIRS), which is jointly owned and controlled by PACT and the commercial television network. PIRS provides information and advice on two key areas for foreign producers: work permits and health and safety. Non-UK producers making one-off productions in the UK can access the PIRS's services without paying the membership fee. The Eye
